Sometimes people tend to form a judgement about the message before the sender has finished communicating. When a receiver judges the message too quickly, they may miss important parts of the communication. This results in misunderstanding because the listener stops listening carefully and draws conclusions based on incomplete information.

**(ii) Lack of Attention:**
When the receiver's mind is preoccupied with other thoughts, worries, or problems, they may not pay proper attention to the message being communicated. Even if the message is physically heard, it is not mentally processed. This inattention creates a psychological barrier that prevents the message from being understood correctly.

**(iii) Loss by Transmission and Poor Retention:**
In oral communication, when a message passes through multiple levels (sender → intermediary → receiver), it tends to get distorted or diluted. Key details are lost at each transmission point. Additionally, people tend to forget information over time, especially if it was not written down or not considered important. This barrier is particularly significant in long communication chains.

**(iv) Distrust:**
Effective communication requires mutual trust between the sender and the receiver. If the receiver does not trust the sender — perhaps due to past experience, personality conflicts, or a difference in status — they may interpret the message with suspicion and scepticism. Distrust leads to selective listening and prevents acceptance of the message in its intended form, creating a significant psychological barrier.
