Read the passage and answer:
Phenols undergo electrophilic substitution reactions readily due to the strong activating effect of OH group attached to the benzene ring. Since the OH group increases electron density more at o– and p– positions, it is ortho, para-directing. The Reimer-Tiemann reaction introduces an aldehyde group on the aromatic ring of phenol, ortho to the hydroxyl group.
