As a result of constant media attention, sports professionals in my country become stars and celebrities, and those at the top are paid huge salaries. Just like movie stars, they live extravagant lifestyles with huge houses and modern cars. I will discuss some viewpoints and explain my opinion. It is clear that sport is always a popular activity everywhere, and many people have already made it their profession.
Consequently, many teenagers start their careers in sport, and they continue working to achieve a better lifestyle and financial success. Of course, sportsmen spend a great deal of time and money pursuing their initial goals, and they work hard until they achieve top results. While other people are sleeping in their comfortable beds, sports professionals are exercising and working towards their main aims. Also, sportsmen and sportswomen do not strive only for their own sake; they can contribute to the reputation of their own country and nation. I think people should look at the background behind these achievements, because they can see the effort, difficult roads and many failures that these sports professionals have experienced.
On the other hand, some people think it is unfair that sports professionals earn so much money compared with doctors, politicians and builders. There is a big difference between sports professionals and doctors. For example, if someone who is famous for boxing or Taekwondo wins a world championship, the government may give him or her a new house, an expensive car or a large amount of money. In comparison, doctors treat serious illnesses and can save someone's life, but the government does not always pay enough attention to their contribution. That is why the situation seems unfair to some people.
Indeed, sports professionals are wealthier than writers and teachers in many cases. However, doing sport is beneficial mainly for a person's own health and future, while writers and teachers can bring more benefits to all members of society. Writers, for example, create novels that can improve people's outlook and broaden their understanding of the world.
All in all, I think sports professionals are worthy of being rewarded alongside doctors and people in other professions. At the same time, people should respect and reward other workers, such as scientists, doctors and writers, because their work also makes important contributions to society.
